Mustangs victorious in their first playoff game
The Dallas Center Grimes Mustangs entered post season play Friday night at home against RPI #8 Harlan. On a cold rainy night the Mustangs fought to extend their season as they outlasted the perennial powerhouse 9-7. 
The Mustangs fell behind early in the game when the Harlan Cyclones reached the end zone on a 3 yard run. The two teams fought back and forth throughout the first half and settled on a 7-0 Harlan lead heading into halftime. 
The DC-G offense fought their way back into the game behind the outstanding running of Junior Zach Brand. Brand had 116 yards rushing on 22 carries along with 2 catches for 30 yards. Senior Isaac Boley contributed the Mustang's lone touchdown while compiling 2 catches for 13 yards. 
The Mustang defense was stout as they held the Harlan offense who averaged 342 yards of offense per game to 164 yards and only 2 first downs in the second half. Juniors Blake Willey and Brody Burger anchored the defense. Willey had 9 solo tackles, 2 assists and 1 tackle for loss. Burger contributed 6 solo tackles, 4 assists and 2 tackles for loss. 
The Mustangs (#10 RPI) (9-1, 5-0) advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2017 and travel to Lewis Central High School of Council Bluffs, Iowa (#3 RPI) (9-1, 4-1) next Friday November 8th at 7pm. The winner of that contest moves to the semi-finals Thursday, November 14th in The Dome......Cedar Falls, IA.
