Mustangs take care of business on the road in Humboldt
The Dallas Center-Grimes Mustang football program took to the road Friday night in a 3A District 2 match-up. The Mustangs held off a tough Humboldt team 17-12 as the fall winds blew through the night. 
 
Humboldt opened the scoring with a 31 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Mustangs answered when Ty Walker found Cody Hall on touchdown passes in the second and third quarters. Kicker Simano Goncalves added a 19 yard field goal in the 4th to make the score 17-6. Humboldt got a 4th quarter touchdown to make the score 17-12. After threatening late, the Mustangs held off the Wildcat attack to bring home their second district win of the year. 
 
The offense was lead by Junior Ty Walker who was 10/17 passing with 98 yards and 2 touchdowns. Walker also added 67 yards rushing on 8 attempts. But the workhorse for the offense was Junior Luke Busby. Busby carried the ball 31 times for 116 yards and hauling in 2 catches for 19 yards. Senior Tight End Cody Hall added 4 catches for 54 yards and provided the Mustang's 2 touchdowns. 
 
The defense was led by Junior Middle Linebacker Blake Willey. Willey contributed 7 solo tackles and assisted on 6 others. DC-G's Black D was tested throughout the night but prevailed thanks to a great team effort. 15 different Mustangs recorded tackles as Senior Zach Needham provided some great highlights with 5 solo tackles, 3 assists, 2 sacks and 1 tackle for a loss. Black D's defensive backs held their opponent to 4/10 passing for 19 yards, a season best. 
 
The Mustangs improve to 5-1 on the year, 2-0 in the district. DC-G returns to the Stable next Friday to face district foe Boone @ 7:30 PM.
